Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Bulletin
http://www.cowan.edu.au/hhs/health/bulletin/issue1.htm
The objectives of the Bulletin are:
* to contribute to informed decision-making in policy and
program development and implementation;
* to assist administrators responsible for local health
service delivery;
* to inform health professionals of recent developments;
to provide a resource for academics, students and
others; and
* to facilitate cooperation and collaboration between
researchers.
The Bulletin will address these objectives by making relevant information
available to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal politicians, health
administrators, health professionals (such as doctors, Aboriginal health
workers and nurses), other professionals, researchers, academics, students
and the general public.
The sections of the Bulletin will resemble those of the former hard-copy
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Information Bulletin, which
was produced by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare until
December 1995. This edition includes sections on:
* Current topics - which includes summaries of recent
events of interest, such as the endorsement by AHMAC
of national performance indicators for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander health;
* Journal articles - details and abstracts of articles
appearing in a wide range of journals;
* Reports - details and summaries of recent reports and
other publications;
* Conference abstracts - this section includes abstracts
of papers presented at conferences;
* Brief communications - summaries of special topics,
such as the development by the Broome Regional
Aboriginal Medical Service of practice guidelines for
diabetes; and
* Recent theses - details and abstracts of recently
completed theses and treatises.
Plans are underway to constitute an Editorial Board which will be
responsible for guiding the Bulletin’s development and for oversight of
its content. Among the first tasks of the Editorial Board will be to
consider how frequently the Bulletin is produced and whether a hard-copy
version should be made available to those people without Internet access
and, if so, how. Current thinking is that a new electronic edition could
be produced every three to four months.
