The BMJ Publishing Group and the British Association of Sport and
Excercise Medicine are pleased to announce that the British Journal of
Sports Medicine is now available online.
The British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) publishes original work,
commissioned reviews and current opinion, covering all aspects of sports
medicine, the management of sports injury, exercise physiology, sports
psychology, physiotherapy and the epidemiology of exercise and health. The
journal includes a series of review articles focusing on the benefits of
exercise and the current management of common sporting injuries by
recognized experts from around the world. Invited editorials give
authoritative opinions on topical issues on clinical, scientific and
educational aspects of sports medicine.
BJSM Online contains the full content of each issue of the journal,
including all figures and tables, beginning with the February 1, 2000
issue (Volume 34, Issue 1). The full text is searchable by keyword, and
the cited references include hyperlinks to Medline and to the online full
text of many other frequently-cited journals. Abstracts and PDFs are
available beginning with the March 1, 1998 issue (Volume 9, Issue 1), and
abstracts are available beginning with the April 1, 1975 (Volume 9, Issue
1). The table of contents is available beginning with the April 1, 1974
issue (Volume 8, Issue 1). The ISSN is 1473-0480 for the online journal.
Each issue will be placed online approximately on the date it is mailed to
subscribers, so the online site will be available prior to receipt of your
paper copy. The December 1, 2000 issue (Volume 34, Issue 6) is the latest
issue online. Online readers may want to sign up for the eTOCs
(electronic Table of Contents) service, which will deliver each new
issue's table of contents via email. The web site also provides access to
information about the journal, such as instructions to authors and
subscription information, as well as access to the BMJ Publishing Group's
web site.
BJSM is currently available on a free trial basis until April 2, 2001;
subsequent to the trial, access to the full text of articles will be
available by institutional license, which comes with all institutional
subscriptions, or by individual subscription available to print
subscribers or Society members. All other access (e.g., to abstracts,
eTOCs, searching, instructions to authors) will remain freely available.
We very much encourage you to sign the guestbook on your first visit to
the site. This will take only a minute or two, and it will provide us
with helpful information about who the online readers are and how they are
connecting to the site. In addition, we would appreciate comments,
critiques, questions, or suggestions from you; these can be sent via the
Feedback link found on all pages of the site. Feedback from readers will
help us decide what new features would be most valuable for the site and
how well it is working for its readers.
The site is being produced in conjunction with Stanford University's
HighWire Press, which also works with other medical and research journals,
including these frequently-cited journals: Journal of Applied Physiology;
Circulation; and BMJ.
You may find a list of online medical and research journals and their URLs
