Publisher: Balkan Human Rights Network (BHRN)

In 1998 the Balkan Human Rights Network (BHRN) arose as a joint effort of
multiple human rights organisations to increase cooperation and secure their
position in the Balkan region. BHRN was initiated by a group of human rights
organisations of South East Europe in Copenhagen in October 1998. Today some
44 organisations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia,
Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro & Serbia are part of the BHRN.

Until now BHRN has promoted dialogue and co-operation in human rights issues
between the non-governmental sector, governments, media, professional groups
and general public.

The vision of the Network is peace and stability in the South Eastern Europe
(SEE) supported by democratic societies developed in the region, as well as
awareness of and respect for human rights in all spheres of society.

BHRN¹s mission is to promote conformity of national laws and practices to
international human rights standards in South Eastern Europe. This is done
through the region¹s strongest human rights network where organisations have
joined their efforts in the fields of education, information sharing,
advocacy, dialogue and cooperation with state, professional organisations
and general public.

The annual report summarizes results of BHRN projects and initiatives during
the reporting period.
