The Histochemical Journal is a subscription-based electronic version of
the print journal of the same title published 12 times a year by Chapman &
Hall. Full-text is available to subscribers as PDF files.
The Histochemical Journal publishes original
research papers, review articles and short
communications in the field of histochemistry,
cytochemistry and histophysics, and in those areas of
biochemistry, biophysics and cell biology concerned
with the chernical composition and activities of
tissues, cells and cellular components. The term
histochemistry is used in its widest sense. Signed
editorials, letters-to-the-editor and short
communications about basic issues in histochemistry
or technical data not warranting a full article will also
be considered.
Papers devoted to the following topics are especially welcomed:
* Interpretation of the physiological and biochemical function of
cells and tissues in terms of their cytochemical and
histochemical characteristics
* Investigations in the field of cell biology in which
cytochemical and histochemical techniques are exploited.
* Correlated biochemical, cytochemical and morphological studies
of tissues, cells or subcellular organisms.
* Application of cytochemical and histochemical techniques to
problems in the medical and biological sciences.
* Botanical histochemistry.
* Quantitative histochemistry, including microassay techniques.
* Immunohistochemistry.
* Reports of new or improved techniques, and critical appraisals
of specificity and reaction mechanisms of existing techniques.
An active and constructive editorial policy is followed with the aim of
continually improving the quality and standing of the Journal in its
scientific content, and, to this end, all papers and reviews are refereed
by at least two independent referees.
Short Communications are intended to give histochemists an opportunity of
publishing new results of special significance or developments of
technique or instrumentation as quickly as possible. Provided they are
properly prepared, communications will be published in the issue currently
being prepared for the press. Manuscripts should be typed in double
spacing and not exceed 2000 words, including references, tables and
legends. A maximum of one page of line diagrams and photomicrographs may
be included as well. Immunocytochemistry manuscripts must satisfy
additional criteria to those normally required for acceptance. These are
explained in Histochem. J. 17, 841-2 (1985).
