IEEE'S PROCEEDINGS JOURNAL TO JOIN OCLC'S EJO SERVICE
DUBLIN, Ohio, Sept. 1, 1995--The Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and OCLC announced that _Proceedings of the
IEEE Online_ will soon be available through the OCLC Electronic Journals
Online service. Available in March 1996, the journal will be the
electronic version of _Proceedings of the IEEE_, a leading wide-interest
journal reporting progress in electrical and computer engineering.
"_Proceedings of the IEEE Online_ is one of several electronic
publishing initiatives being pursued by IEEE," said Anthony Ferraro,
staff executive, Publications, IEEE. "It is our goal, as an engineering
and computing membership association, to offer our members and customers
state-of-the-art technology for accessing the information they need in
the most convenient and cost-effective way."
_Proceedings of the IEEE_ provides in-depth tutorial and review coverage
of important technological developments in the field. Authors in
_Proceedings of the IEEE_ summarize and synthesize pertinent research
and techniques. As a result, the journal conveys the information of
multiple publications, covering the entire field under one cover.
Recently, _Proceedings of the IEEE_ has featured articles on image
compression, environmental research, digital television, microprocessors
and distributed-interactive systems.
"IEEE is recognized as one of the most prestigious engineering
organizations in the world," said Andrea Keyhani, manager, Electronic
Publishing, OCLC. "We are extremely pleased to add their proceedings
journal to our growing collection of engineering and physics journals.
Through our service, the IEEE will be able to rapidly disseminate this
important information to its subscribers, who can access the information
at their desktops at any time."
_Proceedings of the IEEE Online_ will use OCLC's Windows-based graphical
user interface, Guidon, which operates in the Microsoft Windows
environment. The journal can be reached through asynchronous dial
access or through the Internet. Access through OCLC's Electronic
Journals Online World Wide Web service is also planned.
The IEEE is a nonprofit membership organization with 37 technical
societies and councils in 150 countries. The IEEE publishes nearly 100
journals and magazines, as well as hundreds of conference proceedings,
representing 25 percent of the world's literature on electronics,
electrical engineering, computer science, applied physics and
information technology. In addition, the IEEE is the world's largest
technical society, with approximately 320,000 members throughout the
world.
OCLC is a nonprofit computer library service and research organization
whose computer network and services link more than 21,000 libraries in
61 countries and territories. (GP)
