This online version of the print journal of the same name is published for
the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas by Academic
Press, Inc. through a program titled IDEAL (International Digital
Electronic Access Library). The ICES Journal of Marine Science is an
established journal which has been given a new name and a new publisher
and has been expanded from four to six issues per volume in the future.
For 65 years, it was published as the Journal du Conseil by the
International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES). Under its
new name, it will continue to publish original papers within the broad
field of marine and fisheries science, with particular reference to living
resources and their environment. It will continue to be a primary source
of high quality papers on fishery-oriented marine science and a standard
reference in the fields of ecology, population studies, plankton research,
and physical and chemical oceanography. Short notes, book reviews, and
letters to the Editor are welcomed. From 1995 the journal also includes
the papers presented at ICES symposia.

 Research Areas Include:
Population biology and ecology of Anadromous and Catadromous Fish
      Marine mammals and invertebrates
      Fisheries assessment
      Plankton and benthos research
      Pollution studies
Physical and chemical oceanography relevant to the dynamics and
 	productivity of marine resource

Some articles appearing in the December 1996 issue of the Journal include:
'Sea surface temperature changes in the North Sea and their causes',
'Long-term hydrographic variation in the Skagerrak based on the section
Torungen-Hirtshals', and 'Hydrography of the East Shetland Basin in
relation to decadal North Sea variability'.

Subscription to this electronic journal involves licensing agreements with
academic and industrial networks or consortia of libraries and can not be
done on a personal or even title by title basis. However, the table of
contents and article abstracts for each issue are available online
free-of-charge. Articles are provided to members of subscriber
institutions in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format.
