This online version of the print journal of the same name is published by
Academic Press, Inc. through a program titled IDEAL (International Digital
Electronic Access Library). The International Journal of Nautical
Archaeology covers all aspects of nautical archaeological research. The
journal's themes are seas, ships, cargos, and the sailors of the
past-subjects that have excited interest throughout history. The journal
keeps readers abreast of the latest explorations, discoveries, and
technical innovations in the field. Studies about ancient ships, harbours,
and cargoes, whether from excavations or documentary sources, will be of
interest to the naval architect, historian, and archaeologist. Information
on the well-preserved artifacts discovered through techniques of
underwater archaeology is especially valuable since these materials are
seldom, if ever, found in excavations on land.

 Research Areas Include:
Archaeology of sites in rivers, lakes, and the sea
      Conservation
Legislation for the protection of sites
      Reports of dives
      Surveying techniques
      Underwater excavations

Some articles appearing in the May 1996 issue of the Journal include:
'Sadana Island shipwreck, Egypt: preliminary report', 'The discovery of an
early 18th-century boat in Lough Neagh', and 'Effects of shipworm on the
 performance of ancient Mediterranean warships'.

Subscription to this electronic journal involves licensing agreements with
academic and industrial networks or consortia of libraries and can not be
done on a personal or even title by title basis. However, the table of
contents and article abstracts for each issue are available online
free-of-charge. Articles are provided to members of subscriber
institutions in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format.
