Inaugural Issue:  march 1998.  

INITIATIVES is a new, unique, peer reviewed electronic journal dedicated
to providing current, pertinent, and exciting information on new
developments in Information Policy, Information Technology, Management of
Information and Information Environments, and the Information Profession.

INITIATIVES aims to highlight the significant role that information
professionals play in the present and future development of information
tools, access to and organization of information, and information
management and evaluation.

In addition to examining the issues in a scholarly environment,
INITIATIVES:

o Highlights special projects 
o Serves as an up-to-date communication forum 
o Offers practical tools and recommendations for developing
information initiatives 

The editors of INITIATIVES are looking for articles on interesting
projects, issues, and programs in: 

            Special and non-traditional library program and projects 
            Academic libraries and higher education 
            Distance learning 
            Library education programs 
            Technology applications enhancing information access,
		organization, or evaluation 
            WWW and Internet development 
            Geographic Information Systems programs and projects 
            Government information programs and projects 
            Inter-organizational partnerships and projects 

Articles should demonstrate the significance of information and
information professionals as they discuss these issues, projects, and
programs.

Each issue of INITIATIVES will contain: 

o Practical, insightful information 
o Current trends 
o Solutions and tools 
o Perspective on issues that affect professionals and stakeholders in all
types of libraries and information environments 

INITIATIVES is unique in information literature. It combines the
traditional elements of a print journal, yet adds an interactive
capability that keeps significant issues and important projects in the
forefront. In addition, it combines advice, comments, and ideas from
experts with examples of practical applications of ideas. 
      
Each issue of INITIATIVES will contain: 

            Guest Editorial 
            Articles 
            Question of the Quarter 
            Spotlight Initiative: Nuts and Bolts 
            Focus
