Today, planning and management are widely recognized as vitally important
for the development of health, and for the efficiency and control of those
activities that impact upon health. At the same time, the economic
circumstances facing countries world-wide present a great challenge for
health planning and management. The aim of this quarterly Journal is to
respond to this challenge, by offering a forum and outlet for publications
that direct attention to major issues in health planning and management
systems and practices. Overall, the intention is to maintain a sound
balance between practice and theory, from a variety of schools of thought.

The Journal is explicitly international and multidisciplinary in scope and
appeal: articles about planning and management issues incountries at
various stages of social, cultural and economic development are to be
welcomed, as are those directed at the different levels (national,
regional, local, etc.) of the health sector. Manuscripts are invited from
a spectrum of different disciplines (medicine, management and the social
sciences), provided that these advance our knowledge and understanding of
the health sector, broadly defined. The Journal thereby brings together
work which in the past has been too widely scattered throughout the
literature.

Available by subscription only.
