The Japanese Heart Journal, first published in 1960, was renamed the
International Heart Journal in January 2005.

In January 1960, the Japanese Heart Journal Association was founded at the
University of Tokyo to publish bimonthly an academic journal in the fields
of clinical and experimental cardiovascular research. For more than 40
years, the Association has been publishing manuscripts on cardiovascular
medicine that originated mainly from within Japan.

In recent years, however, the Association has been receiving a great number
of submissions from overseas. Submissions from outside Japan exceeded those
from within Japan in 2001, and the percentage of foreign submissions reached
66% in 2004. To reflect the increasing international significance of the
Japanese Heart Journal as an international journal, the Association has
decided to rename it the International Heart Journal as of January 2005.
