The aim of the institute is for research on early Islamic history and theology and examine the literary character of the Koran on the basis of historical-critical and philological means to promote Arabic philological research.

The aim of INARAH is purely scientific and could be summarized as the establishment of the historical-critical method in the Islamic sciences. This should ultimately be conducive to the emergence of Enlightenment in the Islamic culture.

INARAH has no political or missionary goals. The members also represented a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and ideological views.
