January Magazine

January Magazine

Smartypants Studios is pleased to announce the launch of a new online
publication, January Magazine at

http://www.januarymagazine.com

January is the beginning, with both sides staring you down. January starts
things. In cold world climates, January brings visions of snow and ice and
-- with both those things -- renewal. January is all about new beginnings.

To us, January is also a taunt at conventional magazines. We stand here in
cyberspace arms akimbo and say, "Ha!" and then say "Ha!" again to
traditional thoughts about publishing and production and overhead and even
content and design. We know the new medium demands new ways of thinking
about old problems and old presentations, and we've had enough experience
with those stinky old mediums to understand the Way Things Work. The
hierarchies and lowearchies involved in bringing any type of news to
light. We don't have any of that here. What we do have is a lot of
questions. And some of these questions have answers still to be born.
That's exciting stuff. Because without conventions and rules and
hierarchies and lowearchies, you're left with a lot of formless content.
Or perhaps more concisely, content waiting for you to help form it.

January, in our interpretation, is about literature. Although not in the
stuffy way that makes you head for the hills and put the funny papers over
your head. January Magazine will bring you interviews with authors, book
reviews and other related stuff on a regular basis. Personal meetings with
authors, accessible reviews and lots of great photos and illustrations
will bring the stars -- and the almost stars -- of the literary world
right to your computer, via this Web site. Also, for those wanting a more
in-your-face approach, you can sign up for a free subscription to the
January E-mail magazine. Once a month you'll get a text overview of what's
in the current issue. With a synopsis of the lead stories and HTML links
to zoom you where you want to go quickly. Best of all: we won't mail you
any HTML to slow you down. Pure text, pure information.
