About The MoJo Wire

The MoJo Wire is the latest offering from Mother Jones magazine, the
first general-interest magazine to appear on the World Wide Web. We
started the site in November of 1993, calling ourselves Mother Jones
Interactive. In July of 1995, we expanded our service, adding more
pictures and sound. We also enhanced our interactive forum, making it
easier for our readers to share their ideas with us and with each other.
We're covering issues in depth that the magazine can only touch on.

Mother Jones magazine was named after Mary Harris Jones (1830-1930), a
pioneer labor organizer known for her feisty spirit and devotion to the
labor movement. The magazine was launched in 1976, with the purpose of
reaching a significantly larger audience than that reached by existing
progressive journals.

Mother Jones is a magazine of investigation and ideas for independent
thinkers. Provocative and unexpected articles inform readers and
inspire action toward positive social change. Colorful and personal,
Mother Jones challenges conventional wisdom, exposes abuses of power,
helps redefine stubborn problems and offers fresh solutions.

Mother Jones is a project of the Foundation for National Progress, a
nonprofit activist organization dedicated to advancing progressive
causes through media. Besides publishing Mother Jones, the Foundation's
projects include training interns in investigative journalism,
distributing information on progressive issues through electronic media
and promoting the use of photo documentary journalism as an activist
tool. The Foundation's work is sustained by the magazine's revenue and
the tax-deductible support of foundations and individuals.
