Pablo - The Louvre Test
http://art-quarter.com/beck/joe/pablo
Pablo is published weekly by html mail or www to commemorate the Louvre
Test by Picasso. 2 eminent works of art are confronted creating a new kind
of insight into each.
After World War II, Picasso was asked to donate some works to French
museums. As a compensation, he was granted a confrontation of some of his
paintings to works of his colleagues in the Louvre, on a day closed to the
public. Only very few persons were present. In a kind of ceremony, his
works were hung side by side with other works of his choice. Rarely did
someone speak. Afterwards, Picasso is to have said: "C'est la même
chose!", i.e. it's the same thing: He and the other masters were doing
the same, despite of different styles and attitudes.
Let's do our "Louvre Test" right here, being a painter or not, to see what
this kind of confrontation can do! Experience each single work different
depending on the context! Meet two outstanding works of art talking to
each other every week! Join in a journey through all ages and cultures! We
will look at medieval art, stone age art, modern art, primitive art, you
name it! Without rigid structure, we will browse through the treasures of
man's heritage. Art is one of the very human traits, although it is hard
to say what art actually is. Find out what pleases you and add some
delight to your day. Submit your pairs to delight us! Shed new light on
known works through confronting them with other works! Send in your
comments on shown pairings!
