Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical

The journal Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical (PAT) has been published since
1999 as a continuation of Anais das Escolas de Agronomia e Veterinária, of
the Federal University of Goiás State. The original periodical was created
in 1971, when there was not yet a tradition of agricultural research in
central Brazil. For this reason, it played an important role in publicizing
advances in agricultural research emerging from this region. These advances
culminated in the agricultural conquest of the Brazilian cerrados.

The increasing demands of agriculture and ranching resulted in the
scientific advances which have made Brazil a technological model for the
development of these activities in the world's tropical regions. In this
sense, scientific periodicals such as PAT have made and continue to make a
strategically significant contribution to this extraordinary development.

Pioneering articles on the use of liming in cerrado soils, on the correction
of aluminum toxicity in these soils, about the adaptation of crops like
soybean and maize to these environmental conditions, as well as the
sustainable management of plant species such as fruits native to the cerrado
have had few other outlets for publication than these periodicals, since the
seventies.

With an awareness of this historic contribution to the science and
technology of the agricultural sector in the tropics, we hope to better meet
the increasing demand of the national and international scientific community
for quality publications, in which ethics and technical rigor prevail.
